JACQUES & LAURENT POURCEL,
STIRRING THE SENSES.
Inspired by the Pourcel twins' childhood, the region where they grew up as well as their many travels abroad, their food reflects their characters, uncomplicated, yet modern and creative. The Montpellier restaurant quickly made its mark on the map in the south of France, and in the past few years has indeed enjoyed an international reputation.
This is what the brothers have passed on to their other fine food restaurants, such as Montpellier or Shanghai, that is to say their personality, their expertise, as well as their style of preparing food which is both original, traditional and innovative, using both first class produce from the land and sea.
They are madly enthusiastic about Mediterranean-style tastes and love all the countries which border this sea: Spain, Italy, Greece, Lebanon, Morocco... All with their sun-drenched cuisine and the same basic ingredients: olive oil, tomato, spices...
Two words keeping coming up « simplicity » and « produce », reflecting the twins' philosophy « you can't have good without good produce ». They travel up and down the country looking for the best producers, local growers, fishermen and meat producers so as to serve you only the very best produce.
For them, preparing food is a constant quest to push new boundaries, to dare to step outside of classic cuisine and look around both locally and internationally for an ever-changing style.
Abroad, the brothers are keen on showing their international clientele that these two French chefs are capable of creating a different style of cuisine based on their own particular identities, a signature. So the Pourcel brothers have started a new gastronomic movement, a modern interpretation of French traditional cuisine to be found in an international urban environment.
Far from any type of fashion, their sophisticated, even extravagant cuisine plays on its contrasts, sweet - sour, bitter - sweet, hot - cold, crispy - soft. A wonderful blend of styles which is demonstrated at Le Jardin des Sens.
High in colour, tasty and delicious it is an ode to the five senses which the Pourcel twins hold so much to heart.
